Leaving

He has been different lately. It felt like making love the last time and you fell even further than you thought possible. He kissed and caressed and refused to let you in return. I want this to be about you. You've been waking up with him, not wanting this to be the last day you'd see him for three months. This morning you pulled him into you and breathed him in, pressing your lips to his cool skin. When you sat up, you burned the image of him lying beneath you, sleeping and breathing deep, into your memory, wishing you could take that picture with you everywhere.

You've almost told him so many times in the last week that it feels more unnatural now to hold it in than to burst out with it. Sometimes the way his eyes follow yours or you catch him looking at you, you feel so. certain.

But then again. Maybe not certain enough. And there's only one thing you can hold on to.

I've loved you forever.
